BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met on Monday with a Belarussian delegation led by director of the presidential office Uladaimir Makei.
Wang applauded the progress of China-Belarus ties over the years, saying the two sides had enhanced political trust and cooperation, and cemented coordination in international affairs.
He said China considers Belarus a sincere friend and reliable partner, and attaches great importance to its friendly cooperation with the country.
The vice premier also appreciated Belarus' support for China on Taiwan, Tibet and human rights issues, vowing to lift bilateral ties to a new level.
Makei asked Wang to convey a letter from Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko to President Hu Jintao. He told Wang to develop friendly cooperation with China is a priority of his country's foreign policy.
Referring to a currency swap agreement signed between the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and Belarus' National Bank earlier this month, Makei appreciated China's efforts for the agreement, adding his country is ready to enhance mutual-beneficial cooperation with China in various fields.
The agreement signed on March 11 allows the two banks to swap 20 billion yuan (2.9 billion U.S. dollars) or 8 trillion Belarus Ruble in three years, which could extend if both sides agreed. It aims to promote bilateral trade and investment to boost the economic development of both countries, according to a statement of the PBOC, China's central bank.
