Belarusian NPP will meet highest safety standards - Putin

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin assured the Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko in Minsk in Tuesday that a nuclear power plant Russia will build in Belarus will meet the highest safety standards. He said he had already gathered nuclear specialists to discuss the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus.

This will be a new-generation plant with safety levels much higher than in Japan, although Belarus is not an earthquake prone country, said Mr. Putin. He added that Japan’s nuclear reactors were produced in the United States 40 years ago.

Mr. Putin is in Minsk for talks on deeper integration within the framework of the Customs Union and a common economic space set up by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
