Russia may loan about six billion U.S. dollars to Belarus for the construction of its first nuclear power plant (NPP), said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Wednesday.
Following talks with his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myasnikovich, Putin told reporters that the relevant loan agreement could be signed within a month, according to the state-run Itar-Tass news agency.
The two countries signed a deal on NPP construction cooperation in Minsk, capital of Belarus, on Tuesday, as part of a series of bilateral energy deals.
According to the agreement, Russian contractor Atomstroiexport will do most of the construction work, reported RIA Novosti news agency.
The first unit of the Belarusian NPP is expected to start operation in 2017.
