Byelorussian Iron and Steel Works (BMZ) has announced that it plans to reconstruct its continuous caster No. 2, following which the unit's annual capacity will increase from 856,000 mt to 1.2 million mt.
Accordingly, the reconstructed six-strand machine, with a high level of automation and a casting radius increased to eight meters, will be able to produce billets with 125 x 125 mm and 140 x 140 mm cross sections, and will have equipment for both open and closed casting.
The reconstruction of BMZ's continuous caster No. 2 will be implemented by the Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI, which has said that the project will be implemented in several phases and will take a maximum of two years.
