Belarus inquiry alleges plot to oust Lukashenko
A mass protest against Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's December 2010 re-election were "plotted by foreign representatives" to oust him, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
Citing the findings of an investigation, a ministry spokesman said: "We have found irrefutable proof of an attempted coup plotted with foreign representatives of state and foreign organisations."
The opposition staged a large demonstration in Minsk on December 19, the day of Lukashenko's controversial re-election.
In January, the president accused Germany and Poland of seeking to oust him through the protest, an allegation dismissed by as "baseless" by Berlin.
Tens of thousands of people protested on election night in Minsk against what they perceived as unfair elections that gave incumbent strongman Lukashenko a fourth presidential term.
The protest was followed by a violent crackdown and detention of over 600 people, including most of the candidates who stood against Lukashenko. EU states condemned the crackdown.
Poland and Germany have been frontline critics of the post-election crackdown.
