(Reuters) - MTS (MBT.N), Russia's top mobile phone operator, said it does not rule out putting its stake in MTS-Belarus up for sale after the Belarussian government said talks over its own stake sale to MTS had failed over price.
"If Belarus government decided to put their own share for sale with initial price of $1 billion, we do not rule out we will simultaneously put our stake for sale at the comparable price," said MTS' spokeswoman Yelena Kokhanovskaya.
Belarussian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin told the BelTA state news agency on Friday Belarus was putting up for sale by international tender its 51 percent stake in the joint venture. [ID:nLDE7370PT]
Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said last month that Belarus was ready to sell its stake in the local MTS unit for $1 billion. [ID:nLDE72H0CY] (Reporting by Anastasia Teterevleva; writing by Maria Kiselyova; editing by Vladimir Soldatkin)
