Belarus City Celebrates Lag B'Omer Holiday

MOGILEV, Belarus - In the Belarus city of Mogilev, a city of 356, 457 located 246 kilometers east of Minsk, young members of the local Jewish community came together to enjoy a wonderful party in celebration of the holiday Lag B'Omer.

The event involved Jewish adolescents and members of the 'Ezra' Youth Club, who enjoyed an outing to a large forest, not far from the city. They were joined by leaders of the local community, as well as the city's Chief Rabbi Mendy Alperovich, who founded the Youth Club nearly one and a half years ago. The several dozen members of this club gather each Shabbat to recite prayers, light candles, and enjoy a Shabbat meal.

The teenagers really enjoyed themselves at the event, which involved joyful conversation and song, as well as a bonfire and loads of traditional Israeli food.

The Jewish community of Mogilev is a member of the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus and participates in programs run by the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS.
