Famed Polish investor Jan Kulczyk wants to create a private energy consortium, which could then be used as a springboard to consolidate energy utilities across Central Europe.
Energy firms across Poland, Belarus and Ukraine will be particularly important investments for the venture. It is still unclear whether Gdansk-based Energa, a state-owned utility, will become the anchor of this package.
The Treasury is currently looking for a majority buyer of Energa amid ongoing government privatization efforts. Mr Kulczyk says Energa's production capacity could be boosted thanks to partnerships around a new coal power plant in the region.
