OSCE Denounces Pressure On Media In Belarus

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatovic, today expressed concern about recent reports of pressure against independent media in Belarus.

In a letter to Belarusian Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynau, summarized in a press release, Mijatovic said: "Intimidation of journalists exerts a 'chilling' effect on already weakened investigative journalism in Belarus."

Mijatovic also expressed disappointment that Minsk has adopted legislation governing the Internet without public consultation.
