In a joint communique signed during official visit of Belarus President to Turkmenistan on June 18-19, President of Alexander Lukashenko said that the two countries "expressed a desire to strengthen economic partnership based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and also spoke in favor of the maximum utilization of opportunities of the two countries."
The document was signed by Turkmen President of Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov.
During the talks, the heads of state exchanged views on a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Belarusian relations, current international and regional issues.
Having discussed issues of trade and economic relations, the presidents noted their importance and expressed their desire to strengthen economic partnership, based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and also spoke in favor of the maximum utilization potential of the two countries.
Each side stressed experience of cooperation that accumulated during the years of independence of the two countries' in the supply, operation and maintenance of agricultural, automotive, construction and other equipment and that textile industry is a solid foundation to build synergies in other areas of cooperation including energy, processing and chemical industries, as well as implementation of joint infrastructure projects using modern technology.
The Presidents noted the need to intensify work to expand the legal framework between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Belarus and expediency of its development and improvement. The Heads of State expressed the need for further joint work on the preparation of draft international treaties and bilateral agreements.
The Heads of State reaffirmed the mutual interest in deepening ties in education, science, culture, arts, tourism, sports and intensify contacts in these areas. In this context, Turkmenistan and Belarus is committed to preserving and strengthening the spiritual and humanitarian ties between the two peoples.
Regarding the current international issues, the Heads of State stressed the mutual desire of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Belarus to contribute to peace and stability and a climate of trust and understanding in regional and international levels.
The communique also stated that the Presidents informed each other of the socio-economic processes in both countries, noted the effective cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations, particularly in the CIS.
The Heads of State noted that the agreements are an important factor in stabilizing the situation in the region, open broad prospects for strengthening the contacts, solution of economic problems, improving the welfare of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Belarus.
During the negotiations, concrete ways and directions of cooperation between the two countries in priority spheres were determined. Turkmenistan and Belarus attach special importance to strengthening the role of the United Nations in addressing global and strategic issues of international security and sustainable development, and achieving the goals and targets set out in policy documents of the Community of Nations. In this regard, the Heads of State noted the importance of opening the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat.
The Presidents noted the need for further cooperation in combating international terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and other threats and challenges to international security.
The Presidents recognized appropriate the consultations on bilateral issues, as well as on multilateral issues of mutual interest. Bilateral consultations will be conducted at various levels, including the Summit of Heads of State and Government, heads of ministries and departments of the two countries and visits of official delegations.
Lukashenko expressed his heartfelt thanks to Berdymuhamedov, all the Turkmen people for the warm reception and invited President of Turkmenistan to visit Belarus at a convenient time for him. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
