As of August 21, Belarusian farmers harvested 8.11 mln tonnes of grain, an increase of 1.32 mln tonnes compared to the same period in 2007. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the 2008 grain crop will exceed 8.3 mln tonnes and will be the largest crop harvested during the past 15 years.
Farmers have already harvested 92% of sowed areas. The yield totals 38.7 c/ha, as opposed to 30.8 c/ha in the comparable period in 2007. Farmers will begin sowing winter crops on August 25.
