Belarus welcomes U.S. decision to lift sanctions from two companies

MINSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Belarus welcomes the U.S. Treasury Department's decision to temporarily lift economic sanctions from the Lakokraska and Polotsk-Steklovolokno companies.

"Belarus has always emphasized that sanctions are absolutely unacceptable in civilized intergovernmental relations. From this point of view, the said decision by the U.S. is a step in the right direction," Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Popov told Interfax.

"This step by the U.S. government also meets the American business community's interests," he said.

It was reported earlier that the U.S. Treasury Department had lifted economic sanctions from Lakokraska and Polotsk-Steklovolokno for half a year.
