MINSK. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Chinese nuclear energy experts are expected to arrive in Minsk to explore cooperation opportunities in the construction of Belarus' first nuclear power plant, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Wu Hongbin told journalists in Minsk after talks with parliamentary speaker Gennady Novitsky on Monday.
"A working group of China's most powerful nuclear construction corporation will arrive in Minsk soon to discuss more serious prospects of cooperation," the ambassador said. The Chinese side is prepared to assess all variants to be proposed by Belarus, he said.
Asked why the construction of the TETS-2 thermal power plant in Minsk - a joint Belarusian-Chinese project - is being delayed, Wu said the project is being implemented according to plan. "A delay last year was not over equipment supplies," he said.
"The parties have studied all aspects and are ready to sign a contract," the Chinese diplomat said.
