MINSK. Sept 3 (Interfax) - The Belarussian State Border Committee will tighten the security of the Belarus-EU borders because of the massive illegal migration attempts by Georgian citizens, the Border Committee's acting spokesman Igor Shchetinin told Interfax.
"We are tightening security. There are no additional border forces but we have a plan of cooperation with the police and other law enforcers," he said.
Residents of border areas and local authorities have been notified, Shchetinin said, adding, "Volunteer units have been formed [to help the police]."
More than 60 Georgian illegal migrants were seized in Belarusian forests adjoining the border in August, and the number continued to mount.
Two Georgians were seized on September 2 and five on September 3, he said.
