Over nine months of 2005 the companies under the Ministry for Agriculture of the Republic of Belarus sold to China 229 tons of retted flax and flax fibre worth of USD 131,1 thousand whereas in 2004 Belarus sold only 66,2 tons worth of USD 29,2 thousand, head of the Department for foreign cooperation and trade of the Ministry for Agriculture Alexander Grushetskiy informed.
Chinese experts value Belarusian flax for its high quality and intend to continue cooperation with companies of the Belarusian agriculture ministry in 2006. In particular, China plans to expand purchases of flax in 2006 by 1.5 times against the 2005 level.
Belarusian private companies and research institutions also seek to establish cooperation with China, e.g. using the potential of Belarusian selected potatoes.
According to Alexander Grushetskiy, Belarus can boost trade with the People's Republic of China by expanding and strengthening trade-economic links between agricultural and industrial companies of the two countries and establishing exchange of hi-tech information.
