MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - Minsk has reached an agreement with Moscow on the import of 5 billion kilowatt hours of Russian electricity to Belarus in 2008, an almost 40% increase over 2007.
"There is an agreement with Russia on [the import of] 5 billion kWh. We are now determining the supply price," Belarussian Energy Minister Alexander Ozerets told Interfax.
Russian electricity exports to Belarus will total 3.6 billion kWh in 2007.
"Our working group in Moscow is currently clarifying the price so that it is efficient [for Belarus]," he said.
Ozerets said earlier that Belarus plans to import 7 billion kWh of electricity in 2008, including 5 billion kWh from Russia and 2 billion kWh from Ukraine. Belarus will receive 3.3 billion kWh of its electricity imports from Russia at a fixed price, while the remaining imports will be based on the prices of the wholesale market.
