Kremlin denies president may lead Russia-Belarus union state

MOSCOW, December 7 (Itar-Tass) -- The Kremlin has denied media reports the Russian president may lead the Russia-Belarus union state.

A Kremlin official has told Itar-Tass these speculations were 'fantasies'.

"Such a question is absent from the Russian president's agenda," the official said.

A radio station in Moscow on Friday morning quoted a source in the Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko's entourage as saying that at the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State due in Minsk next week a Constitutional Act may be signed to make Vladimir Putin the president and Lukashenko, parliamentary speaker of the union state.

The same version, among several other ones, was mentioned by Wall Street Journal, which referred to its own sources.
